What is a 1-Bit TIFF (.tif)?

A 1-Bit TIFF is one of always several color separation image files. Each of these files contain the screening information for only one single color. Thus, for example, there are four individual 1-Bit TIFF files for a four-color job. In combination, all the individual color separation image files result in the final output image.
