The most important bugfixes...
Layout changes in test charts after update
The update to GMG OpenColor 3.1 altered the layout of test charts created in earlier versions. This led to measurement errors; the test charts could no longer be used.

Import Lab based spot colors and convert them into spectral data
Manage and use all your colors in one common database — including spot colors from CxF files and DB3 libraries: with the 'Lab-to-Spectral' technology, you can convert Lab-based spot color data into spectral values and thus also use and combine them for other projects as you like. You can find a tutorial under the following link: Lab-to-Spectral: Import Spot Colors From CxF and DB3 Files
Save ink quickly and easily with new straightforward presets
It has never been easier to reduce the costs for digital printing: just select one of our new ink saving presets, and GMG OpenColor will adjust relevant parameters like the GCR level automatically before calculating an MXN separation profile. You do not want to use one of our ready-steady presets? Don't worry, of course you can still customize all settings individually if necessary. Learn more about ink saving and other separation settings under the following link: Ink Saving and Other Separation Settings
Calculate separation rules up to 5 times faster
Get more calculations done in less time: GMG OpenColor 3.1 can create separation rules for GMG SmartProfiler projects up to 5 times faster than before. Please note that the actual speed also depends on your individual hardware configuration.
Unlock flexible overprints with FM screening for inkjet printers
In the ink settings, the screening type 'FM Screen' is now available for inkjet processes. This allows you to define the overprinting behavior for each color of your inkjet printer individually and without limits. The correct screening type for your process is communicated by GMG SmartProfiler and automatically set in GMG OpenColor. More details will follow soon.
Create profiles with state of the art algorithms
We have enhanced our profile calculation algorithms to offer you an even higher profile quality and ensure consistency across different profiling methods.
Create profiles for HP DesignJet Z9⁺ PostScript® printers
GMG OpenColor supports the new printer models 'HP DesignJet Z9⁺ 24-in PostScript®' and 'HP DesignJet Z9⁺ 44-in PostScript®' (without dual roll). In combination with GMG ColorProof 5.15 and later, you can use predefined output conditions to create color accurate and reproducible proofs for a wide range of substrates. Please find further information under the following link: Supported Proof Printers, Proof Media, and Print Modes
Measure test charts with the new X-Rite eXact™ 2 series
GMG OpenColor supports all three models of X-Rite's new measuring device series: eXact 2, eXact 2 Xp, and eXact 2 Plus. The measuring devices offer a 30% larger screen than previous X-Rite generations to make measuring easier and more comfortable. Additionally, they provide a low-contact measurement area, helping you to avoid wet ink contamination which could lead to wrong measuring results. Please visit the X-Rite website to learn more about the new eXact™ 2 series.
Embrace the convenience of our dongle-free GMG Online Licensing
The Application Service coming with this version supports the new GMG Online Licensing. Online licenses are system-based licenses that you can use on a local machine or in a virtual environment. They are very stable and don't require a dongle that could break or get lost. Learn more about our online licensing and how you can easily switch for free: Online licenses
Resolved issues
This version provides higher stability and fixes several bugs. We recommend you to always install the latest GMG OpenColor version to benefit from all improvements.
Slow connection to GMG ColorProof, Esko ArtPro+, and Hybrid PackZ
A performance issue occurred in GMG ColorProof, Esko ArtPro+, and Hybrid PackZ when manually loading colors from GMG OpenColor 3.0 projects; the list was displayed too slowly. If you were affected by this issue, please enable this check box in the OpenColor settings:
Error in connection to GMG ColorProof
The dynamic GMG OpenColor standard downloaded into the GMG ColorProof database was, in some cases, corrupted. This resulted in GMG OpenColor inks that couldn't be displayed or jobs showing the error message: "Either OpenColor profile not found or no active connection to OpenColor."
Inconsistent application of spot color target modes
In some cases, the set target mode (absolute / relative) or the gradation was not applied correctly to spot colors.
Crash during filter search in database view
If, during the filter search in the database view, no results were found for the entered keyword, the application crashed instead of displaying an empty list.
Low spot color saturation on dark paper tint
In some cases, the separation rule calculation for spot colors on dark Kraft paper resulted in insufficient color saturation.
Recalibration issues with GMG SmartProfiler projects
Some projects could not be recalibrated.
