New multicolor engine − Create MXN separations from GMG SmartProfiler
The separation engine used by GMG ColorServer has been greatly improved to simplify workflows and make the latest MXN enhancements from GMG OpenColor also available to GMG SmartProfiler. Benefit from faster profile calculation, request CMYK-to-ECG separations, use new ink saving presets and much more by installing this update.
Have separation rules calculated up to 5 times faster
Get more characterizations done in less time: in combination with GMG OpenColor 3.1, the separation rules for your GMG SmartProfiler projects will be calculated up to 5 times faster than before. Please note that the actual speed also depends on your individual hardware configuration.
Save ink quickly and easily with new GMG SmartProfiler presets
It has never been easier to reduce the costs for digital printing: just select one of our new ink saving presets in GMG SmartProfiler, and relevant parameters like the GCR level will be adjusted automatically before calculating the MXN profile. You do not want to use one of our ready-steady presets? Of course you can still customize all settings individually if required. Learn more about ink saving and other color management settings under Color Management.
Save channels for your toner-based press with improved CMY-only preset
With GMG ColorServer 5.5, you can not only save ink but also channels for your toner-based presses. The enhanced preset 'No Black' in GMG SmartProfiler improves the black point compensation for CMY separation profiles, resulting in higher color saturation.
Receive high-quality profiles for uncoated media and film
When profiling your digital press, you can now define the used media type in GMG SmartProfiler. By specifying whether your media is uncoated, coated, or film, you will receive more precise prediction results for your characterizations, especially for uncoated media with a low TAC (see "Define Printer & Media").
Assign and manage access rights for multiple clients
As an administrator, you can now assign global and distinct access rights for connected clients to safeguard your color management resources and hotfolders from undesired alterations. Choose between two access modes: either grant basic access for color conversion via preset hotfolders and updating existing GMG SmartProfiler resources only, or grant advanced access for complete asset and configuration control on top. You can also password-protect the client access mode setting to prevent it from being accidentally switched by users with advanced access, including yourself.
Filter spot colors by Lab value in the new spot color overview
Switch colors, not apps: when looking for details on available spot colors — such as Lab values, separation details, or out-of-gamut information — you can now access them directly in GMG ColorServer. The extended spot color interface is not only comprehensive, but also helps you preventing unwanted duplicates with the new Lab filter: search by a spot color's current Lab or target Lab and find the closest match for your printing process easily (see "Lab Filter for Spot Colors").
View all relevant details on shared GMG OpenColor projects at a glance
We have revised the 'OpenColor Projects' interface, offering detailed information on the settings and profiles of shared conversion projects. The redesign is inspired by the look in GMG OpenColor, ensuring a consistent and easy-to-use experience for you.
Use PDF hotfolder and PDF processing defaults for GMG SmartProfiler Spectral
Are you tired of defining re-occurring parameters manually each time when creating new GMG SmartProfiler Spectral documents? Good news: the defaults for PDF hotfolder templates and PDF processing templates, previously used by GMG SmartProfiler Lab only, are now automatically applied to GMG SmartProfiler Spectral documents as well. The templates for normalization and spot colors are still used by GMG SmartProfiler Lab only; the labels in the user interface have been adjusted accordingly. Use the following link to find out how to adjust the default settings if required: Customizing Default Settings
Use existing GMG SmartProfiler documents as templates on the fly
Instead of using the default templates mentioned above, you can also use any existing GMG SmartProfiler documents as templates for new characterizations. This saves a lot of time, especially when characterizing different media for the same press. In contrast to the 'Duplicate' function, all settings from the existing document object are kept then, so you don't have to re-define them from scratch. Detailed instructions can be found under the following link: Template Creation From Existing Documents
Measure test charts with the new X-Rite eXact™ 2 series
GMG ColorServer supports all three models of X-Rite's new eXact™ 2 measuring device series: eXact 2, eXact 2 Xp, and eXact 2 Plus. The measuring devices offer a 30% larger screen than previous X-Rite generations to make measuring easier and more comfortable. Additionally, they provide a low-contact measurement area, helping you to avoid wet ink contamination which could lead to wrong measuring results. Please visit the X-Rite website to learn more about the new eXact™ 2 series.
Measure test charts with the new MYIRO-1
GMG ColorServer supports the new measuring device MYIRO-1. This portable spectrophotometer allows you to measure M0, M1, and M2 with a single scan, conforming to ISO13655:2017. Like the groundbreaking MYIRO-9, the MYIRO-1 features built-in wavelength calibration and temperature drift compensation, maximizing day-to-day accuracy and reliability. Learn more about the MYIRO-1 on the MYIRO website.
Embrace the convenience of our dongle-free GMG Online Licensing
The Application Service coming with this version supports the new GMG Online Licensing. Online licenses are system-based licenses that you can use on a local machine or in a virtual environment. They are very stable and don't require a dongle that could break or get lost. Learn more about our online licensing and how you can easily switch for free: Online licenses
Resolved issues
This version provides higher stability and fixes several bugs. We recommend you to always install the latest GMG ColorServer version to benefit from all improvements.
PDF processing issues
Several PDF processing issues have been resolved.
Image hotfolder - 'Uncompress' setting ignored
The 'uncompress' setting for image hotfolders did not work; the output files remained compressed.
GMG ColorServer Hotfolder Monitor − Incorrect job status
The hotfolder monitor was not updating after job completion; the jobs were still shown under the 'running' tab.
Warning icon for ICC replacement rules
Custom ICC replacement rules were marked with a yellow warning icon.
Slow file opening in ArtPro+
Opening output files in ArtPro+ took too long when the GMG ColorServer option 'Preserve Single Channel' was enabled for PDF processing.
Server crash on separation rules synchronization
In some environments, GMG ColorServer crashed during the synchronization of separation rules.
GMG SmartProfiler − Recalibration issues
Some projects could not be recalibrated.
GMG SmartProfiler − Missing patches after measurement export
Exported recalibration measurement files did not contain all measured patches.
GMG ProfileEditor − Application crash on profile opening
MX4x profiles created in GMG OpenColor 3.0.0.3158 could not be opened in GMG ProfileEditor, leading to application crashes.
GMG InkOptimizer license not applied
GMG ColorServer did not work with the license 'Product InkOptimizer (Subscription)'. The status bar displayed the info 'No license', and a pop-up message with this error message was shown: "ColorServer is running without a valid license. No jobs are being processed (…)."
Are you still using GMG OpenColor 3.0 or older?
Please note that you will only benefit from many of this version's novelties in combination with GMG OpenColor 3.1. Therefore, please also update GMG OpenColor to unlock the full potential for your printing processes.
