To create a halftone proof that matches your 1-Bit files (from your CtP-RIP), you need two things:
- A DotProof color profile that uses the exact same screening settings as your 1-Bit files.
- A DotProof proof standard, which links your color profile with your printer and media.
Step 1: Create a DotProof profile

Step 2: Create a Proof Standard
Create a proof standard with GMG OpenColor:
Proof standards are automatically created in ColorProof as soon as an OpenColor project is published and data synced to ColorProof (see also How to automatically create an OpenColor proof standard).
Create a proof standard without GMG OpenColor or for use with static profiles:
- In the main menu, go to Database.
- On the Proofing Conditions tab, choose your Printer and Media.
- Under Proof Standard, click Add and select Add Custom Proof Standard….
- Give your proof standard a name in the Properties menu.
- Under Color Management:
For MXD profiles, use the MXN/MXD Based option.
For MX5 profiles, use the MX Based option. - Under DotProof, choose your color profile. Ignore any yellow warning messages.
- Click Save & Close.
Step 3: Create a DotProof workflow or job
To create a workflow:
- In the main menu, go to Workflows and open Overview.
- Select or make a hotfolder for your files.
- Right-click and choose New Workflow…
- Go to Input Settings > General and name your workflow.
- Under Filters, tick 1-Bit (for color depth) and set the correct file format.Turn off PDF and PS/EPS filters.
- Under Merge Files, set the correct rules for combining files.
- In Color Management > Proof Output, select your proof standard and set Proof Mode to DotProof.
- Click Save & Close.
New files placed in the hotfolder will be processed automatically.
To create a job:
In the main menu, open Jobs.
Right-click and select New Job…
Select all the 1-Bit files you want to proof.
Under Merge files, select how your CtP-RIP groups files.
Under Proof-Standard, select your proof standard.
Click Open.
In the Manual Job Manager, check all settings.
To print the job, click Print; to print later, click Save & Close.
Your DotProof job is now ready and can be printed at any time
