Any printer can be connected to GMG ColorProof through a Windows print spooler in order to print imposition proofs. Imposition proofs are a great way to quickly check the layout and content.
As the focus is on layout and content, imposition proofs have no claim on color accuracy, as the data is sent directly to the printer ICC and skips GMG color management via MX profiles. The color management is configured in the Windows print spooler only.
Note: Requires the additional license option "Imposition Proofer".
The imposition proofer is shown on the Output tab, together with your proof printers. To print imposition proofs, you need to select the imposition proofer in a workflow. (You cannot use imposition printers in manual jobs.)
How to set up an imposition proofer in ColorProof
- Install the appropriate printer driver from the printer website.
- In ColorProof, under Output, double-click the licensed imposition proofer.
- Select the imposition proofer as a Spooler.
- In ColorProof, set the Printer ICC to "Custom" and select "AdobeRGB 1998.icm" as Custom ICC. This is the color space which is handed to the spooler as output color space (spoolers usually work with RGB color spaces).
- Under Properties, click Edit. The spooler printer settings are shown.
Select "Adobe RGB" as Automatic Mode (consistent to the Printer ICC defined in step 4).
Under Paper Settings, select "Roll Paper - Banner" (if available) and click the button "User Defined..."
Set the "Paper width" to the full roll width and a length that will cover the largest size prints that will be made and make sure to save the User Defined paper size: - It is important as well to check the box for "Save Roll Paper" in order to have the job cut at the end of the image size rather than the defined page size.
- Click Apply and close the printer settings.
Replace "Default CMYK" profile to define the input color space
To define the input color space of the files you want to print as an imposition proof, we recommend to exchange the installed default profile as follows.
- Shut down GMG ColorProof.
- In C:\Users\Public\GMG\ColorProof\Profiles_ICC folder rename Default CMYK.icm to REAL Default CMYK.icm or any name so you know this was the original Default ICC for ColorProof.
- Replace the "Default CMYK" profile with the profile made from "ISOcoated_v2_eci" which you can find attached at the end of this FAQ article.
(It was edited in ColorSync on a Mac to have same internal name settings as small "Default CMYK" This is needed setup - the internal name must match small profile internal name or will be ignored. If not done GMG ColorProof when launched re-installs the small profile - and the color will be wrong. You'll know it's wrong if you see two "Default CMYK" profiles in the folder in the "../Profile_ICC" directory.) - Restart GMG. Now you can print your first imposition proof by copying a file to the workflow hotfolder which is connected to the imposition printer.
