When is a print head cleaning necessary?
If the nozzle pattern has missing segments or if the print quality declines, e.g. if the printout is blurry or the color is incorrect or missing, you can clean the print heads to improve the print quality. ‘Print head cleaning’ unclogs the print head nozzles, so they can deliver ink properly. The cleaning takes several minutes to complete.
Please bear in mind that every print head cleaning consumes ink. To avoid wasting ink, you should only clean the print head if there is a print quality issue. Instead of cleaning all print head nozzles, you can save ink and clean only those that are causing problems.
‘Normal’ Print head cleaning and ‘Power cleaning’
If printing does not improve after the first cleaning, repeat the process two or three times.
If the print quality still does not improve, start the Power Cleaning service.
Note: All cartridges must be removed from the printer and shaken before replacing the ink in the system to ensure that the pigments are evenly distributed.
If the nozzles are still clogged after performing ‘Power Cleaning’, turn off the printer and leave it overnight or longer.
When left for some time, the clogged ink may dissolve. If the nozzles are still clogged, contact your dealer or Epson Support.
How to clean the print head automatically?
Automatic print head cleaning can be done from the printer display or from the software.
From the printer display
Example for Epson SureColor SC-P7500 (see image above):
Printer display > Menu > Maintenance > Head Cleaning or
Printer display > Menu > Maintenance > Power Cleaning
From ColorProof
You can start a ‘normal cleaning’ out of the ColorProof application: Output > Select printer > Maintenance > Clean Print heads
It is not possible to start a ‘power cleaning’ from ColorProof.
How to clean the print head manually?
If print head clogging cannot be cleared using automatic cleaning, clean the print head and the area around the caps.
Please refer to the Epson user manual for detailed instructions.
