The GMG Application Service is a local tool included with most GMG software products that helps you view and manage your licenses.
Basically, the Application Service is a Windows background service that:
Displays the current licensing status of your GMG software on a specific system
Connects to GMG license server to deliver licenses
- Allows you to create or switch between license models
You can access it directly from a GMG application via Help > License Update. By default, the service runs as background process appservice.exe as soon as you start an installed GMG product.
Automatically receiving new licenses
The Application Service checks for license updates every hour. With an active internet connection, it automatically syncs new or updated licenses from the GMG license server to your system.
If you have a valid Software Update Contract (SUC) or Subscription, licenses for new major versions are added automatically.
Without one, you’ll need to order new licenses for major updates to install them.
You can view the last check under Options > Show version info and manually update the status anytime by clicking the Refresh icon in the overview.
Managing licenses across several systems
To manage all GMG licenses from several systems, we recommend to request a company ID for our self-service platform GMG Manage. After your company is set up in Manage, you can create an overview of all systems showing all licenses and installed versions.
