Version 5.18 - Coming soon
Mutoh ValueJet 628MP for substrate proofing (including white ink)
GMG ColorProof 5.18 expands GMG's packaging portfolio with support for the Mutoh ValueJet 628MP, a multi-purpose inkjet printer designed to support both 24” wide roll media and sheet-fed substrates. Using “MP31” inks, the printer delivers exceptional print quality across a wide range of materials. These inks provide durability comparable to eco-solvent inks, offering excellent weather and abrasion resistance while producing vibrant colors with a smooth, natural finish that preserves the authentic appearance of each substrate. The ValueJet 628MP is ideal for producing: contract proofs on production substrates or packaging prototypes & mockups.
Supporting up to eight colors, the printer offers an expanded color gamut with optional light inks and spot colors such as orange, blue, green, and white. The GMG Driver offers print modes with different resolutions for front and reverse printing workflows and includes a pre-linearization capability that provides uniform color reproduction across the widest possible color gamut, even without color management. If necessary, for example, with certain types of substrates, the ink application can be reduced to ensure optimal ink absorption.
Fully integrated with GMG OpenColor, the ValueJet 628MP closes an important gap in GMG's packaging proofing portfolio by enabling substrate-specific contract proofs on production materials. The Calibration Creation Wizard in ColorProof allows users to create custom calibration sets and output conditions, which can then be used for profiling with GMG OpenColor 3.4 (and later versions).
Email notifications via GMG Cloud
ColorProof can now send all notification emails via a GMG cloud service instead of a local or Microsoft mail server, reducing configuration effort and simplifying administration.
Remote Proofing improvement: recipient-side nesting
For greater efficiency in remote proofing, jobs can now be assigned directly to a workflow in the recipient’s system. This allows multiple images to be optimally nested, media to be utilized more effectively, and reduces printing costs. Read more
Better visibility into asset usage and changes
New "Last Used" and "Last Changed" information for key assets will improve transparency, simplify data management, and help reduce the risk of using outdated configurations.
Simplified exchange of OpenColor server addresses
All OpenColor Proof Standards in ColorProof can be batch-updated with a new OpenColor server address. This existing functionality has been extended to support hostnames in addition to IP addresses for both the general server configuration and batch exchange when migrating the OpenColor system to a different server:

Alpha preview: VIC (Very Important Colors) Control Strip
We are introducing an alpha version of a new control strip, designed specifically for label and packaging printing. The VIC Control Strip complements traditional control wedges by bridging the gap between standardized color control and the colors that matter most in the final design, providing an additional layer of confidence for color-critical print jobs. The strip requires GMG OpenColor to define the input colors.
If you are interested in evaluating the VIC Control Strip and participating in the alpha program, please contact us at ux@gmgcolor.com.
Resolved issues
This version provides higher stability and fixes the following bugs:
-
Startup after update not possible with Remote CaliWizard
On some systems with a configured Remote CaliWizard, ColorProof failed to start after an update.
Error message: “A technical error occurred” -
Startup froze after update
On some systems, ColorProof did not start successfully after updating. The startup process froze at the splash screen while displaying “configuring downloads”. -
“Unexpected end of printing”
Some ColorProof jobs were not printed and remained in the job list with an error message. The same error occurred during auto-calibration of Epson SureColor-Px000 and Stylus Pro x900 printers.
Error message: “Unexpected end of printing” -
PANTONE Pastels & Neons spot color set not available
The spot color sets PANTONE Pastels & Neons coated and uncoated were shown as grayed out and were not available for use. -
OpenColor port change not possible
Changing the port of the OpenColor server address in the general settings was not possible anymore.
Error message: “OpenColor connection invalid. Please enter a valid computer name or IP address”
