Job Reporting in ColorProof

The history is defined in two places in ColorProof - the History and the Log file.

In the System tab, under ‘Default Cleanup Settings’, it’s set to Job Count 200. The history itself will keep 200 jobs and then clear out the oldest one as new ones come in, to keep it consistently at 200. This can be increased/decreased as preferred. Though we recommend not to set it too high as it can slow things down.

Scrolling further down will give the Job Report Settings. This is set to keep the last 100 jobs and it stores them in a file in C:\Users\Public\GMG\ColorProof\ColorProofLog.xml. This can be opened in a XML viewer (like Notepad++ or an internet browser) or viewed in Excel as a spreadsheet.

This can also be increased – this is probably the better one to increase as it won’t affect performance.

Unfortunately if the number of jobs has already passed, there is no way to retrieve the job history.

The Log File

GMG ColorProof automatically creates a system log file report providing you with an overview of all proc-essed jobs. This job report holds all user relevant information such as the print date, media and ink usage per job and image (for printers that support tracking of media and ink usage), dimensions, and PDF output intent. The job report can, for example, be used by a system operator to monitor the job processing. It is also an ideal basis for billing, cost controlling, and resource planning. Furthermore, the job report can be read by external systems to track the processing status.

The job report can be configured in the System view, on the General tabbed page. It is saved as Col-orProofLog.xml into the specified Job Report Folder. The job report is updated immediately after a job has been processed (job status Finished, Canceled, or Error).

You can export and reset the job report in the System menu. A regular reset can be defined by the Report Cleanup settings in the System view, on the General tabbed page.

The job report is saved in an XML file format. This file format has the advantage that it can be used very flexibly. For example, you can open the ColorProofLog.xml in Microsoft Excel and use all features offered by a standard spreadsheet program such as filtering, calculations, graphs, and so on.

You can also open the file in a standard web browser application. The same contents will be shown in HTML table layout, as defined in the transform.xsl stylesheet file also saved to the specified Job Report Folder. In this case, the transform.xsl must be available in the same folder as the job report file. Please remember to copy both files if copying the job report into a different folder.
