The transfer of license systems is the digital equivalent of unplugging a USB license dongle from one computer and plugging it into another.
- The entire license container is moved: licenses + serial number
- The serial number does not change
- Licenses are not copied (they are available on only one system)
Note: Partial transfers of individual licenses or options are not supported due to the dependencies on the Software Update Contract (SUC). If you need to distribute individual licenses or license options across different systems, please contact order@gmgcolor.com.
Prerequisites:
- Online license systems only: This feature applies only to online licensing systems, not hardware dongles.
- AppService version: Both systems involved must be running AppService version 2.3.51.740 or higher. See also: Install latest AppService version
How to transfer licenses from one system to another
- Open GMG Manage and navigate to the Systems tab.
- Click the Transfer license system icon next to the system you want to transfer from (the source system).
- Select the target system from the list of available systems and click Transfer.
- A toast notification is displayed in the lower-right corner of the screen as soon as the transfer starts. The notification remains visible while the process is running. Once the transfer is completed, users receive a clear success or failure message. In addition, all transfer actions, including the user who initiated them, are now recorded on the Activity page.
What you will see after the transfer
A successful transfer is visible when the computer names update in the Systems list.
This may take a few minutes.
At first glance, nothing seems to have changed as the source and target systems keep their place in the list. You will, however, notice that the computer name and location data are swapped, as the license system has been transferred from one machine to another (indicated by a pending icon until the process is complete).
The target system takes on the old system’s serial number and inherits all associated licenses.
The old system now carries the new system’s serial number and will no longer have any active licenses.
The machine IDs of both systems are associated with the interchanged serial numbers.
If the update takes longer than expected
If the computer name or licenses do not update after a few minutes:
- On the target computer, open the ApplicationService.
- Click the Refresh icon to get the latest update.
