In some cases you might want to define custom tolerances for spot colors, e.g. define a custom maximum delta-E value for the control strip validation →How to define own rules for PCI verification of OpenColor dynamic Proof Standards?
In other cases, e.g. if you have a modified paper tint in the OpenColor project, but you still want to verify the control strip after the original Fogra target values → see: How to load other target values (not using the ones from OpenColor)?
How to define own rules for PCI verification of OpenColor dynamic Proof Standards?
- Open the OpenColor project. Export an MXN profile.
- Go to the ColorProof database and the corresponding printer > media > calibration set
-
Create a custom proofstandard with this MXN
-
Define default control strip on the Proof verification tab
- Click Add, to add a new ProofControl Standard
- Click: Generate From Proof Standard > From Contone MXN
- The rule set opens (if not, Click Edit to open it)
- Here you can adjust the rules for CMYK
- Save the ProofControl Standard XML. The default location is:
C:\Users\Public\GMG\ColorProof\ProofControlAddOnData\Standards - Now open the OpenColor dynamic Proof Standard for which you wanted to create own rules. Open the Proof Verification tab and link here the created XML (of above). Your control strips for this dynamic OpenColor Proof Standard will now be verified with the custom rules.
How to load other target values (not using the ones from OpenColor)?
- Create or copy a ProofControl Standard that contains the target values you want to use.
- Now open the OpenColor Proof Standard for which you wanted to define custom target values. Open the Proof Verification tab and link here the XML of step 1. Makes sure teh measurement condition fits to the proofing condition of the OpenColor project. Your control strips for this OpenColor Proof Standard will now be verified with the custom target values.
| OpenColor Proof Standard without a PCI XML | Target values are calculated automatically from the OpenColor project, the rules are the default rules for the corresponding control strip |
| OpenColor Proof Standard with a PCI XML | The target values and rules that are defined in the XML are applied in the validation of the control strip |
Default rules
OpenColor Proof Standard without a defined XML will use the default rules of the selected strip. The default rules correspond to the ISO defaults:
-
Ugra/Fogra Media Wedge CMYK V3.0
Max 5 dE
Average 2,5 dE -
Spot Color Control Strip V2.0
Max 2,5 dE
Average 2,5 dE -
OpenColor Control Strip (e.g. 5 tints - 0/20/40/60/80/100%)
Max 2,5 dE
Average 2,5 dE -
Multicolor Strip
Max 5 dE
Average 2,5 dE
